The start of a new project – Tropical fish mobile

July 24, 2013 § Leave a comment

So this week I have started something new.
I have experimented previously with making mobiles (see https://woollywildthings.wordpress.com/2013/02/09/leaping-hares-and-floating-mushrooms/) and I have decided to make a fish themed mobile, with a collection of different species of tropical fish.

I started with a clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris)

This is how the wool looks before I start working with it, I buy wool that is already dyed, but I would love to learn how to prepare and dye the wool myself!

I have since learned that this type of fish is in fact known as a false anenomefish. There are lots of different clownfish species. I think this is the most commonly recognised one as it appeared in the film Finding Nemo!

More fish will appear on here soon, I am already working on a blue tang and a french angelfish. I have been felting in the garden with endless cups of tea!
